Refund delay causes customer anguish
I ORDERED some ink for my printer online in Australia recently.
As soon as I had paid with PayPal and saw the billing I realised that I had made a mistake and phoned the ink company immediately on a toll free line.
I was told that the order would be cancelled and a refund would be issued by PayPal.
I re-ordered the ink correctly and it was delivered the next day.
The two charges were added to my Visa account instantly.
I waited about five days for a refund to show up on PayPal and Visa.
I finally phoned the ink company again and was told that the person who does refunds was away.
I would have to wait another two business days to see it on my PayPal and Visa.
Well, as there was a weekend, it actually took five days to get to PayPal; and PayPal took another four days to send the credit to Visa.
My question is: if they can debit my Visa in seconds why does it take days or weeks to show a credit.
While waiting for this refund, where is the money?
I suspect it was languishing in some large pool making good interest for someone.
If money can be taken away in seconds why can it not be returned in seconds?
They are playing with our money.
It is time to call in The Office of Fair Trading and have them look into this.
Weekends should not play a role in returning money.
