Record yarding at cattle sale

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s special steer sale drew a record yarding of 2207 head at its liveweight selling centre at Biggenden last Friday.

Judge Wayne Green of Ray White Rural Longreach chose a pen of Charbray steers exhibited by Barry and Carol Whitaker from their Eidsvold property as champion pen, winning them an $8000 Leicht cattle veterinary crush.

Other prize winners received fuel vouchers, eskies and accommodation at Peppers Pier Resort.

BLR company director Lance Whitaker said it was a great day for vendors, with good competition from buyers from as far as Taroom and Esk.

He said good quality cattle received top prices, but lesser quality proved harder to market.
