Read to me program
AS PART of Literacy and Numeracy week, businesses, community groups and individuals in Childers are being invited to participate in a fun event especially tailored for children up to the age of three.
A series of child-friendly activities will be offered at various locations in Childers as part of the event.
At each of the locations an adult will read to the children and they will also have the opportunity to join in other activities before heading to the next location.
Denise Rapkins from the Childers Library said the aim is to create a fun-filled literacy day which will hopefully become an annual event.
"Businesses are being encouraged to take part by providing space to set up a reading station,” she said.
"Children from various schools have been invited and encouraged to dress up in costumes relating to the circus.
"This event is designed to encourage parents to read to their children every day.”
The Read To Me program will take place on Tuesday, September 1 from 10am and people are encouraged to meet at Millennium Park.
Mrs Rapkins said the library will be supplying the books and high school students will be providing the fantastic entertainment.
Businesses along Churchill St are being encouraged to decorate their premises in a circus theme and staff are also encouraged to dress up.
"We want to demonstrate and foster the love of reading to young children and to create interaction between families,” Mrs Rapkins said.
"If you don't have time to decorate, let us know and we can help.”
