Rape charge against army man

A CIVIL servant with the Australian Defence Force has faced court charged with rape, three counts of indecent treatment and observations or filming in breach of privacy.

Senior Sergeant Mick Eather told the court the man held a senior position in the armed service and the allegations against him were most serious.

The court heard when the man was arrested he made no admissions about the rape but allegedly admitted to the observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

The man, aged 43, who cannot be named, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The man applied for bail and it was granted on the condition he lives with his brother-in-law, reports four times a week, and has no contact with the alleged victims. He will next appear in court on January 11.
