Rainbow Rd forestry fire

AERIAL waterbombing was used to control a fire near Rainbow Road, Childers, yesterday.

Queensland Fire and Rescue rural operations manager Tony Johnstone said the blaze was deep in freehold forestry land, which made access difficult for firefighters.

“It was picked up by a fire spotter. We used the helicopter to aerial bomb it,” Mr Johnstone said.

He said the fire was quickly brought under control.

“It is now burning within containment lines, and we are keeping an eye on it,” he said.

“Only a small area was burned.”

He said aerial patrols would be conducted while the fire ban was in place.

“It’s a total fire ban, so we have to be extremely vigilant,” Mr Johnstone said.
