FROCKS were colourful and suits were sharp as race-goers put their best foot forward today at the Thabeban Park racecourse.

For some, it was a first time event down at the tracks while others were enjoying what was an annual affair.

Ken Betts enjoyed the day with a group of friends and said the event had all the atmosphere of some of the bigger races.

"This is the first time I have been to the Bundaberg races. I went to the Royal Ascot in England once where I sat above the Queen," he said.

"To be honest, this event is better. It has so much atmosphere."

Mr Betts said he had made a $5 punt on a horse but wasn't too fussed about winning.

"This is the only race I have ever bet on," he said.

"My grandfather was a bit of a punter. In the 27 years I knew him, he either came first or second in every single race he bet on."

Bundaberg man Todd Conway said the Bundaberg race day was an event he attended every year with his group of friends.

"It's just a good day out for everyone. The ladies get to dress up and look beautiful and make all of us boys look bad," he said.

"It is a lot of fun."
