Quiet time to mark 60 years

AFTER 60 years of marriage, the Muchows of Innes Park opted for a quiet celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday.

Monica and Clifford Muchow have lived in Bundaberg their whole married lives, and in their Innes Park house for more than 30 years.

But yesterday Mrs Muchow was not giving away any secrets on how the couple originally met all those years ago.

“It was just around the town,” she said.

Mr Muchow did manage to give one hint on how to stay married for 60 years.

“I learnt to say ‘yes dear’,” he said.

Mr Muchow, who is Bundaberg born and bred, worked as a cane cutter until he was in his 40s, then managed a cane farm and later ended up working for the Woongarra Shire Council for two years.

He is now 85, but Mrs Muchow would only admit that she was in her 80s.

“Old enough to have more sense,” she said.

The couple’s house, which they had built more than 30 years ago, is only about 100m back from the beach at Innes Park, which makes sense when Mr Muchow admits that fishing is his main hobby.

Mrs Muchow, who said she did not really have any hobbies, still drives a car and said she enjoyed meeting up with her friends around town.

While they were planning a quiet time together yesterday, the couple’s son was travelling up from Brisbane to visit them on their anniversary yesterday afternoon.

And he apparently did have something special planned for the day.

“Our son is cooking dinner,” Mrs Muchow said.

“So we don’t know what’s on the menu.”
