Queensland Treasurer staffer resigns over DV allegations

A STAFF member from Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt's electorate office has resigned.

The resignation came after the Treasurer discovered a Domestic and Family Violence protection order had been issued against the staff member in May.

The Treasurer has released a statement saying he only learned of the order yesterday and is "extremely disappointed that such a serious matter was never disclosed to [him]."

"Domestic violence is never acceptable in any form - physical or emotional.

"Given the matters involved, I don't intend on commenting further and I ask that the privacy of the individuals be respected."

Full Statement from Treasurer Curtis Pitt

Yesterday I learned of serious allegations against one of my electorate staff.

I had a conversation with that staff member, who resigned immediately.

I am advised a Domestic and Family Violence protection order was issued to the staff member in May, subsequent to the initial employment screening process.

I've been shocked to learn of these allegations and I'm extremely disappointed that such a serious matter was never disclosed to me.

Given the expected public attention regarding this case I'm certainly concerned about what impact this has on everyone involved including his children and other family members.

Domestic violence must be brought out of the shadows to protect the most vulnerable in our community.

Domestic violence is never acceptable in any form - physical or emotional.

Given the matters involved, I don't intend on commenting further and I ask that the privacy of the individuals be respected.
