Qld Bulls greats to roar in Bundy
RETIRED Queensland Bulls legends Andy Bichel, Michael Kasprowicz and Jimmy Maher are among an all-star cast of former Australian Test players who will turn back the clock in a Twenty20 game at Bundaberg's Salter Oval on Friday night, November 5.
They will line up alongside the likes of Darren Lehmann, Greg Blewett and Rodney Hogg against a Bundaberg Invitational XI as part of the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) Masters Tour.
The match will be played under lights, starting at 5.30pm, with admission only $5 for adults, while children under 16 will be admitted free. Tickets will be available at the gate.
The Masters team will arrive in Bundaberg on the Thursday, when they will also attend a special Sportsmen's Night.
They will also conduct a Milo in2CRICKET clinic for children on the Friday.
The tour is supported by the Bundaberg Regional Council and Bundaberg Cricket Association (BCA).
The Masters program has been developed by the ACA, the official representative body of past and present players, with a focus on the promotion of cricket.
ACA chief executive Paul Marsh said the program helped local cricket associations to raise funds and identify local talent through a scholarship program.
“This region is a strong sporting area, so we hope to build excitement around the tour and continue to raise the profile of cricket in the community,” Marsh said.
BCA president Les Bennett said the tour was generating great interest and the match would be a tremendous opportunity for rising stars to play some of their heroes and also a reward for some wonderful servants of Bundaberg cricket.
The Bundaberg side for the clash is expected to be announced early next week.
