Proposal to host district teams

BUNDABERG Port Curtis Men’s and Ladies District Bowls Association is planning to submit a proposal to Bowls Queensland to host the 2011 Bowls Queensland district teams. A meeting will be held at Burnett Bowls Club on Thursday, January 14, at 9am for clubs to meet and finalise their submissions.

The district will need five clubs over four days to stage the event. If successful, the district might also host the Bowls Queensland State Championships for men and women. Any bowlers and umpires who wish to volunteer their services are welcome to attend. More information from the secretary on 4152 2578 or 0413 946 464.

BARGARA Bowls Club Open Medley Day will be held on January 10, with prize money of $2200. Four teams are needed for a full field. Teams require four players, who can be men, women or mixed. Round one starts at 9am, with two pairs of 11 ends. Round two singles of 21-up or the bell and two bowl triples of 14 ends will be held before lunch. The afternoon game is fours, with 18 ends.

BYO lunch or order from the club. Nominations to Jim See 4159 2202 or 0402 812 771.

AUSTRALIA’S premier bowls magazine, Queensland Bowler, will have a new look this year.

The magazine will be printed on high-quality gloss paper from cover to cover, making for a more enjoyable product.

It will also feature new columns and articles, while regional reporters scattered throughout the state will keep readers up to date with articles from far-flung corners of Queensland.

The magazine requires more regional reporters, so if you are interested please contact Bowls Queensland on 3355 9988 for more information.

A REMINDER for club coaches due for reaccreditation this year and new coaches. The Bowls Queensland Club Coach course, to be held in Bundaberg from January 9-10, still has vacancies. Applications for this course close on January 6. Those wishing to attend the course should download and complete the registration form from the website – www.bowlsqld.org– and forward to Bowls Queensland.

Application forms are also available from division coaching panels or from the secretary, Bundaberg Men’s Division Bowls Association, by phone/fax 4152 2578, or email bmdba@bigpond.net.au.
