Toowoomba house wins for beauty, views and innovation
TUCKED away in one of the Darling Downs' most picturesque areas a residential home has scooped a major award.
The Prince Henry Heights house won the 2014 HIA Queensland Custom Built Home ($500,000-$750,000 category) of the year award.
"It was quite a coup to win the award," RMA Engineers Director Glen Rowen said.
"The three-level residence is designed to capture the range views and has been designed to be energy efficient.
"It's positioned on the block to take advantage of the northern aspect and also features polished concrete floors, louvres and large glass panels and a three-storey lift."
The team who took Mr Rowen's concept from paper to product was Rick Taddio from Toowoomba company Taddio Building Group.
Initial concepts of outside elevations were provided by Feather & Lawry Design.
Rick Taddio said: "We were up against some very competitive looking houses built in Brisbane and the North Coast, but Glen's design and my team from Taddio Building Group were able to come up trumps.
"It's a beautiful, unique and energy efficient home, we're proud of it.
"The awards recognise workmanship, design and innovation so it was nice to be named best in the state for those qualities," Mr Taddio said.
Taddio Builders was the only Toowoomba company to be nominated for the award.
'Rick Taddio and his team deserve praise as does the team from RMA Engineers who assisted me in the design process," Mr Rowen said.
"We beat out companies from the Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
"At RMA we're proud to say we're from Toowoomba and we prefer to work with local companies like the Taddio Building Group."
