President of the Philippines compares himself to Hitler

THE leader of the Philippines has compared himself to Hitler and said he would be happy to slaughter three million drug users.

Reuters reported President Rodrigo Duterte, who was elected in May, made the comments at a press conference after landing back in Davao city.

He is reported to have said "If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have," before pointing to himself.

Journalists at the press conference also say Duterte said he would be happy to kill drug addicts.

"There are three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he reportedly said.

The controversial figure was elected earlier this year on the back of an anti-drug policy that advocated for vigilante killings of both users and suppliers of illegal drugs.

More than 3000 people have been killed, by police and members of the public, since Duterte was elected.

As of August, more than 1000 people had been killed by vigilantes according to official figures stated by the Philippine National Police.
