Teen caught driving more than 75kmh over limit: police
MACKAY Police say they've caught a teenager driving more than 75kmh over the speed limit in Dysart over the weekend.
Senior Constable Steve Smith said speed enforcement patrols caught the 18-year-old driving his Holden Commodore at an alleged speed of 176kmh in a 100kmh zone on Dysart Middlemount Rd on Sunday.
The teenager was issued with a $1137 on the spot fine and will lose eight demerit points.
Sen Const Smith said travelling at such an excessive speed was extremely risky.
"Speeding can only lead you to problems - but at alleged speeds such as this, even the smallest unexpected circumstance can be tragic," he said.
"Responsibility for a vehicle's speed lay squarely at the feet of each driver."
