Dramatic chase across Brisbane ends in 5 arrests

A STOLEN car was at the centre of a dramatic police chase across Brisbane's southside last night that ended with a head-on crash.

Five people ranging in ages from 16 to 22 have been charged as a result of the incident.

Police will allege, at 8.30pm on Saturday, Polair observed a Lexus, which had been reported stolen from Carindale at 5pm, being driving dangerously through Sherwood.

Police on the ground activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to intercept the car on Orange Grove Rd at Salisbury.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and continued to drive dangerously, crossing on to the incorrect side of the road, driving through red lights and driving at dangerous speeds.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Kessels Rd at Salisbury, deflating three tyres.

It will be alleged the car continued to be driven dangerously and was involved in a head-on traffic crash with a Nissan X-trail at the corner of Beaudesert Rd and Chardean St at Acacia Ridge.

The occupants of the car then allegedly ran from the scene without checking on the occupants of the X-trail.

A 16-year-old female received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The 24-year-old male driver was not injured in the crash.

A police dog squad officer commenced a foot pursuit and the five occupants were taken into custody at 8.50pm.

A 22-year-old man was charged with nine offences, including burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, evade police, duties of drivers involved in road accidents, obstruct police, fail to dispose of needle or syringe and possession of dangerous drugs.

He will appear in the Richlands Magistrate Court on November 12.

A 21-year-old woman was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. She will appear in the Richlands Magistrate Court on December 3.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with four offences, including burglary, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of dangerous drugs.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with three offences, including burglary, receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A second 16-year-old boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
