Argument at 60th birthday party ends in double stabbing

IPSWICH detectives are still waiting for a Redbank Plains couple to recover from injuries before interviewing them about an apparent double stabbing at their house.

A crime scene was declared for parts of Waxberry Court and Burrawang Street in Redbank Plains after Neil and Iona Purcell were discovered with serious wounds about 2am Saturday.

What is known is that an argument broke out during a 60th birthday party for Mr Purcell at the couple's Burrawang St address, however police are yet to make allegations as to how Mr Purcell ended up with defensive wounds to his arms and Mrs Purcell, 54, ended up with a knife protruding from her chest.

Blood was splattered up the couple's street as Mr Purcell fled to seek help from neighbours.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and both the injured were taken in a stable condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed Mrs Purcell had undergone surgery on Saturday night.

Both are expected to recover.
