Police officer seriously assaulted at disturbance

A SENIOR police officer has suffered multiple injuries after he was shoved to the ground while responding to reports of a disturbance in Oakey, it will be alleged.

Oakey police were called to a Joseph St address about 6.30pm Monday in relation to a disturbance when the two responding officers were approached by a man, 27, from another location.

Police will allege the man became belligerent and argumentative when asked to move on from the address before he shoved a male officer in the chest, forcing him to fall backwards onto the road.

The officer hit his head on the road and suffered cuts and grazes in the alleged incident.

The second officer  arrested the man who was then taken into custody.

He was charged with one count each of serious assault police and obstruct police, and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court next month.

The injured officer required medical treatment, and is expected to make a full recovery.
