Rider on lesson or test before horrific crash: Police

POLICE are probing the cause of a crash between a motorcycle and a car at the weekend that left a young man fighting for his life.

Investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit believe the 21-year-old Toowoomba man was a learner rider either on a lesson or a test when the incident occurred on the corner of Drayton-Wellcamp Rd and Devine Rd at about 8.30am on Saturday.

Suffering what Queensland Ambulance Services described as life-threatening injuries, the man was rushed to Toowoomba Hospital.

However as his condition deteriorated, urgent transport to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital was required to save his life.

The 21-year-old man suffered significant traumatic leg injuries in the crash.

A Queensland Police Services spokesman said the collision occurred when the driver of the motorcycle swerved onto the opposite side of the road and into the path of a car.

The female driver of the car was treated for shock at the scene.

A Queensland Health spokeswoman confirmed the man was now in a stable but critical condition and had undergone surgery at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.
