A spokesman for Victoria Police said investigators are yet to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death and the investigation is ongoing.

The terrifying attack comes after two men were savagely stabbed by a group of thugs during a terrifying armed robbery in Melbourne's south east - in a separate incident.

Police say the men were walking along Corigan Street in Noble Park about 1am when it is alleged they were approached by five or six men armed with knives.

The attackers demanded money, but when the pair refused the group launched a sickening attack before fleeing the scene with an amount of cash.
