Police dog recovering after attack during DV disturbance

A MAN has been charged with domestic violence offences in the aftermath of an attack on a police dog.

Queensland Police said the 31-year-old had been charged with four offences, including obstruct police and one count of stealing (domestic violence offence).

Police allege the man stole a mobile phone during a domestic disturbance in Coomera on Sunday night.

Officers called to the disturbance followed the man to bushland, where police dog Bravo was sent to track him.

Police then allege a dog who was with the man attacked PD Bravo and severely injured him.

Officers used OC spray to try subdue the attacking dog but fired their weapon when the spray didn't work.

The dog died from its injuries and PD Bravo was treated overnight for severe injuries.

Police said no humans were physically injured.

The man will now face court on October 14.
