Classes are a pole lot of fun
IT IS fitness that is fun, sexy and feminine and Bundaberg women are already taking up the opportunity to try their hand at pole dancing.
Tracy-Lee Lawrence has started up Bella Bliss Studios, a pole and burlesque dancing studio, in Bundaberg after seeing a need for the niche fitness craze in the city.
"Pole dancing is one of my passions," Ms Lawrence said.
"When I moved here last year there was nothing like this in Bundaberg, so I used to travel to Brisbane every week to do it."
Ms Lawrence said she was drawn to the pole in 2003 as a way to get fit, but also because it was very feminine.
"I am self-taught, but have done classes all over the place," she said.
Ms Lawrence then became a qualified pole dance instructor. She has also studied a Certificate III and IV in fitness and says that pole dancing can offer women a lot of fitness benefits.
"It is really good for self-confidence for women," she said.
"It really strengthens and conditions your muscles - it is an intense work-out.
"A lot of women say they found muscles they never knew they had."
Ms Lawrence decided to take the next step by opening the Bundaberg studio in July when she got sick of travelling and wanted to find some like-minded women to share her passion and skills with.
The studio offers everything from casual classes, personal sessions and hen's night group events.
Most popular is the structured, six-week course which teaches moves, strength and conditioning in the first three weeks, then focuses on routines.
"Pole dancing brings out women's sexuality. It is sexy, but it is a female environment," she said.
Burlesque dancing lessons are also starting this term, which Ms Lawrence said was a strong and sexual dance.
Classes are for all ages and begin again on October 17.
