Planned burns to be carried out

THE Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct  planned burns at Deepwater National Park and Joseph Banks Regional Park as detailed below, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests:

  • Deepwater National Park-east of Deepwater Road between Wreck Rock and Middle Rock camping areas, commencing on Tuesday 14 July 2015, as a result, smoke may be seen within the Deepwater National Park and along Deepwater Road.
  • Joseph Banks Regional Park- west of Endeavour Street and Captain Cook Drive from the 1770 Headland carpark to Monument Point adjacent to the 1770 Camping Ground on Wednesday 15 July 2015, as a result, smoke may be seen throughout the 1770 headland and surrounding streets.

The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the park.

This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

For more information, please call the Agnes Water office of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on 4974 9350.
