Keith Pitt is odds on favourite to retain Hinkler seat

BOOKMAKERS are betting on Malcolm Turnbull turning the Coalition's fortunes around - and expecting Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt to be part of it.

Sportsbet has listed Nationals politician Mr Pitt as the $1.14 favourite to hold his seat.

The betting agency has $5.50 odds for Labor to win and $34 odds on the Greens.

Similarly Flynn MP Ken O'Dowd is the $1.50 favourite to hold his seat.

Sportsbet is predicting the new Prime Minister will lead the Coalition to a victory at the next election - predicting Liberal and National candidates to win 85 seats and Labor to win 61.

The total is a five seat loss from the Coalition's current majority - but a large turnaround from Sportsbet's prediction under former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

The betting agency was predicting the Government would lose 16 seats with Mr Abbott as the leader - potentially resulting in a hung parliament.

The bookmaker is predicting Clive Palmer will lose his seat to the Coalition, but Labor will win the central Queensland seat of Capricornia that Liberal National Party MP Michelle Landry currently holds.

Across Queensland, Sportsbet is predicting a 5% swing towards Labor.

Sportsbet's Ben Bulmer said since the spill punters had been betting 10 times the money on a Coalition victory as on Labor winning the next election.

The Coalition's odds of victory have shortened from $1.77 under Mr Abbott to $1.40 under Mr Turnbull. Labor's odds have blown out to $2.90 to win after being $2.15 before the spill.

"The punters are telling us the party's decision to go with Turnbull was the right one," Mr Bulmer said.

"There were predictions of a wipeout in Queensland on the back of Campbell Newman's loss in the State Election. But Malcolm Turnbull has turned that around."
