Pineapple thieves strike in the night

A Bargara resident who woke to find his garden had been raided and his pineapples stolen, has a warning for the thieves.

Think twice before stealing fruit and vegetables.

Cliff Steinbeck has been growing pineapples in his backyard for six years and said if people are stealing fruit and vegetables they risk getting sick as they don't know when the grower has sprayed the crop.

"Only the grower knows. For seven to 10 days after spaying, you can't eat anything," he said.

"If these young people read that, they'll think oh my god, I could have died.

"The spray will kill a grub inside a peach.

"A lot of young people have got no brains."

Mr Steinback said if they had come in and asked, he would have given them a pineapple.
