Immerse yourself in the history of the Bundaberg region

VISITORS to The Vault at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery can immerse themselves in the history of the Bundaberg region now that Picture Bundaberg has opened.

Picture Bundaberg is a joint project between Bundaberg Regional Libraries and Bundaberg Regional Galleries and is being maintained by Bundaberg Regional Libraries.

Photographs and other images of Bundaberg and the surrounding region from the past 135 years have been themed under four categories: Iconic Buildings, Fun in the Sun, At Work and Floods.

Bundaberg Regional Galleries exhibitions officer Trudie Leigo said the gallery pleased to showcase the cultural heritage of the Bundaberg region by hosting Picture Bundaberg.

We hope that visitors jump at the opportunity to come into BRAG and spend some time delving into the region's history," she said.

The exhibition displays a photographic history of our region, from the early days of the cane sugar industry to memories about Bundaberg businesses such as Wypers and Reddan and Mellor.

The exhibition also includes iconic images of Bundaberg Post Office, the Olympia Theatre, Railway Picnics, Siren of the Surf competitions and of course, the many floods Bundaberg has survived over the past century.

Picture Bundaberg will be on show until September.
