Holy green cow... exhibition to look at the 'truth'

PHOTOGRAPHY series austrALIENation is an exhibition of images taken on an iPhone by the artist known as HolyGreenCow.

The exhibition looks at future history and questions what we take for granted as "the truth".

austrALIENation is set to open on Friday, August 1, with free special 16mm double feature screening of cult Australian gothic classics at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) from 5.30pm.

austrALIENation by HolyGreenCow works as a satirical story within a story.

It presents as an imitation of film stills from 1970s sci-fi movies and the aesthetics of Australian gothic cinema, referencing real historical events using domestic kitsch as substitutes for the actual horrors of war.

"austrALIENation represents my first foray into exploring film stills as a vehicle for conveying my ideas and opinions," HolyGreenCow said.

"It features 10 'stills' from a film that never existed, except in my head.

"It contains a lot of things from my personal life, plus irony plays a huge role in my work and there are a lot of subtleties at work."

HolyGreenCow said each figure or setting sought to open debate and discussion about the world.
