30,000 pizzas in 18 years delivered by knocking Phil

ROCKY'S most experienced pizza delivery driver Phil Twiner yesterday said some customers literally revealed too much of themselves when he came knocking.

"I have had customers that have answered the door naked, or semi in just in their underwear," Phil said yesterday as he spoke about some of the quirkier moments he's encountered on the job.

"You basically just have to look away."

Phil reckons he's only been exposed to about a handful of nudes during the 30,000 pizza deliveries he's made in the past 18 years.

The 36-year-old Bridge St Domino's Pizza employee said the biggest difference he'd seen in the industry over the years was the introduction of new technologies to make the lives of delivery drivers faster and more efficient.

Phil said the world had come a long way since he was stuck driving around to find a pay phone when out on the job.

"When I started I never had a mobile phone," he said.

"Now with the introduction of the GPS system, people now know when you are going to approach and they know when you will be at their door."

Despite the handy introduction of Google Maps on mobile phones, Phil said he still preferred to stick to the trusty paper map in the phonebook.

That's not the only thing that hasn't changed for Phil, who still enjoys his job as much as when he first started.

"It's kind of therapeutic, the delivery aspect of the job," he said.

"You can be out by yourself, just be there with your own thoughts."

Fellow delivery driver Karen Ricks said Phil was renowned in store, and around town, for "taking pride in his fantastic customer service".

Both Phil and store franchisee Jennifer Dooley have been recognised by Domino's Pizza for their 18 years service with the company.
