Pete Evans supports youth project in Toowoomba

CELEBRITY chef Pete Evans has thrown his support behind a new initiative in Toowoomba to help disengaged youth.

Mother-of-seven Jen Shaw has recently created a new social enterprise called Emerge, a catering business and dedicated space for disengaged and at-risk youth in Toowoomba.

Having a rough start in life, she knows what it is like to need support at a young age. She just finished the pilot program for girls which was aimed at goal setting, cooking skills, nutrition and physical activity.

Now, with its amazing success Ms Shaw is creating a hub in the CBD where she can run the program more frequently in the new year.

Mr Evans heard about the social enterprise and wanted to help, promoting the project on his Facebook page which has more than 1.5 million followers.

In the past few days he has posted twice, firstly letting Ms Shaw share her story and secondly to ask people to donate.

The donations will go towards the food van as well as positions in the program.

He said: "Can you help out Jen with a donation for this amazing good cause please? We love you Jen. Nic and I just donated - if you can spare $5 upwards you can help change some young peoples lives."

Mr Evans and his wife Nicola Watson donated $900, which will allow a young person to participate in the program next year.

It also takes the tally to $11,000 out of a $60,000 goal.

Ms Shaw said it was amazing that Mr Evans couple get a board.

"His support is invaluable and he is such a great, down to earth guy," she said.
