Perkins picks up bronze

AUSTRALIAN sprinter Shane Perkins has won the bronze medal in the men's sprint at the velodrome.

Perkins needed only two races to extinguish the hopes of Trindad and Tobago's Njisane Nichols Phillip in the bronze medal race.

Despite missing out on the gold medal race, Perkins said he was 'over the moon' with his third placing.

Great Britain's Jason Kenny was too good for France's Gregory Bauge, who earlier had defeated Perkins, in the gold medal race.
