Perfect preparation for 47th Btn Carnival

TEAMS from the city often enjoy taking on the kids from the bush and in the lead up to trial games between Bundaberg and Coomera Cutters before the 2015 47th Battalion Carnival the boys from the Gold Coast would have been confident of a getting a win.

What they didn't expect was to come up against two, Under-13 and U14, teams that were keen, well prepared and looking for a tune up before the real games start.

The U13 boys had a hard-fought 24-20 win against Coomera with Zac Laybutt the one of the stand-out players for Bundaberg. Zac scored a try and set up a couple of others in the dominant performance.

Harrison Bull, Max Shorter and Joel Larter in the forwards led the way for Bundaberg with great running and hard-hitting defence, but it was the team's little hooker, Joel Baldwin, who proved to be the difference between the two forward packs.

Joel was in everything and his work across the ground earned him the man-of-the-match award.

The U14 boys had been waiting to play this game and their eagerness didn't displace their ability. All the hard work they did training wasn't wasted as they ran out 50-point winners.

Props Lachlan Patterson, Tom Rinaldis, Liam Morrison and Lachlan Bauer laid the platform for the team while lock Dyirun Johnson was involved early, scoring Bundaberg's first try three minuted into the game in a blind-side move.

Nile Pimm at half-back controlled the flow of the game with plenty of back up from five-eighth Declan Buckley and Nick Kitchener at full back showed he has speed to burn as he backed up the halves and forward pack in some damaging passages of play.

Winger Colby Richardson showed he too has plenty of pace when he scored down the touch line to pile more misery on the dejected Coomera Cutter who were clearly outclassed by Bundaberg.

Bundaberg puts the final preparations for the 47th Battalion Carnival on April 25-26 with training tonight at Salter Oval. The U14s start at 3pm and the U13s start at 5pm.
