Gone! Penrith confirm Moylan exit as Maloney waits

PENRITH has released captain Matt Moylan from the remainder of his contract so he can join Cronulla, as a swap deal with James Maloney looms.

A statement released by the Panthers on Thursday confirmed the club has released the star fullback-playmaker, who was originally contracted until the end of 2021.

Cronulla will confirm the signing later today.

Now all that's left to happen is the Maloney deal at Penrith to be finalised for the sensational player swap to be complete.

"I'm sure I speak for everyone here at Panthers in wishing Matt all the best for this next phase of his life," Panthers general manager Phil Gould said.

"We will follow his football career with great interest."

The 26-year-old had played 89 games for the Panthers and was made captain last year.

He was stood down indefinitely late in the 2017 season when rumours of a fractured relationship with coach Anthony Griffin broke.
