Pendleton too good for Meares

GREAT Britain's Victoria Pendleton has claimed back-to-back gold medals in the women's keirin at the London Olympics.

The gold medal winner in Beijing, Pendleton produced a strong race to continue her dominance of this event.

Putting a gold touch on the night's proceedings in the velodrome for the home fans, the showdown between Pendleton and Australia's Anna Meares never eventuated, with Meares finishing in fifth position.

However, Pendleton produced a standout performance, holding off China's Shuang Guo and Hong Kong's Wai Sze Lee.

Pendleton's gold capped off a golden night in the velodrome for the British team, with the men's team pursuit also claiming top spot.
