Peeping penis poses problems for football player

A ROCKHAMPTON footballer wore a navy suit, tie and dress shoes before a magistrate yesterday but faced a public nudity charge following the slip of his penis on September 20.

James David O'Rourke pleaded guilty to one count of indecent exposure after police nabbed him and a teammate walking on the Fitzroy Bridge following an afternoon celebrating the end of the football season.

Police Prosecutor Clancy Fox told the court police caught a flash of O'Rourke's penis while driving past at about 4.15pm and did a u-turn to investigate. The court heard the 21-year-old didn't think to cover himself up while police chatted to him beside the road. A defence lawyer for the aspirational firefighter told the court the he was "well inebriated".

"He might have been trying to embarrass somebody but he was embarrassing himself," the defence lawyer said.

Magistrate Clarke did not record a conviction as to not affect O'Rourke's future.

"I recognise that you are a young man," he said.

O'Rourke was sentenced to one month good behaviour with $100 recognisance.
