Pedro's Mistress appeals in Guns
Last-start Ipswich winner Pedro's Mistress and Spiritual Gift, which is fresh from a win at Albion Park, loom as the ones to beat in the heats of the Bundaberg Young Guns at Thabeban Park tomorrow.
Pedro's Mistress, which is trained at Park Ridge South by Rachel Scott, was impressive in a four and a half-length victory last Wednesday and her Bundaberg and overall credentials are also very good, including five wins from seven local starts.
But she will need to be at her best in a handy field, with the Ron Brook-trained Ledaro Cleo, which has three wins and three seconds from seven appearances at the Park, to carry the local hopes in the event.
Brook will also be represented in the second heat by Madam Lakoda, but a place also appears her best chance as the form of Spiritual Gift, from the Kynnumboon kennels of Keith Boan, is excellent.
She boasts 13 wins, six seconds and two thirds from 27 starts, and she looks a cut above her rivals despite having her first start in Bundaberg.
Surf My Tears, which is unbeaten in two Bundaberg starts and is owned and trained at Bribie Island by Chris Riordan, will also be in the thick of things after back-to-back second placings at Ipswich on June 29 and July 6 before failing there at his only subsequent outing on September 22.
Brook will also be represented in the Best 8 by Ledaro Midge after her narrow but good win last week, but new champion Can Acker Run could turn the table after managing only third in that event, and grand old champion Back Page, which struck trouble in running, needs only to put his best foot forward to get the money.
Also, Convincing Talk, a kennel-mate to Surf My Tears, which boasts six wins and two thirds from nine races in Bundaberg, could also be in the finish despite coming off successive failures at Ipswich, Capalaba and Lismore.
He's Got Speed deserves to break through in the Maiden, while runners to appeal in other events include Rapid Vale (Novice), Deagon Pegasus and Ruby's Omen in the fifth grades, and Psychic Solution, which is coming off a third at Tweed Heads, in the fourth grade.
