PCYCs earn praise from festival-goers for free bus service

THE heroes of the 2014 Agnes Blues and Roots Festival were inarguably the volunteers.

Ferrying patrons to and from the venue was a joint undertaking of the Gladstone PCYC and the Bundaberg PCYC, ensuring safety and using gold-coin donations to raise money for youths.

The three buses that dispersed large crowds quickly from the event raised a total of $2960.30.

The initiative is now in its fourth year.

Sergeant John Kendall from the Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association said the drivers were met with enormous praise over the weekend.

"Throughout the event we constantly are being praised by party goers for ensuring their safety and for providing a great service for them to enjoy," he said.

"Over the years we have been operating we have seen very few to no drink-driving offences. As far as I am aware there were no drink-driving offences detected again this year, which is a great result for the community of Agnes Water."

Sgt Kendall expressed his gratitude to the volunteers who ensured the safety of the community.

Reveller Justin Mackenzie said the service provided to all party goers was a huge relief.

"We didn't have to worry about walking or taxis," he said.

"They always picked us up in less than 10 minutes with a smile on their face and for a good cause."

The PCYC said they were proud to have such a good partnership with the Gladstone Regional Council, and would ensure the initiative continues.
