Patel patients still waiting

THREE former Jayant Patel patients are still waiting to finalise their compensation claims, according to Premier Anna Bligh.

In response to a question on notice from Member for Burnett Rob Messenger, Ms Bligh said yesterday that a total of 295 claims have been settled, and three claims remain for determination.

In Parliament yesterday, she said 89 claims have been closed because the claimant was not a Patel patient or the claimant did not suffer an adverse outcome.

She would not answer questions relating to the costs of the compensation scheme, or the total amount paid, saying it could prejudice the unresolved claims.

“The fact that she wouldn't disclose how much has been paid out shows the government has something to hide,” Mr Messenger said.
