Page MP to Libs: You've had your fun now get back to work

TONY Abbott's fall from the top job came as no shock to NSW Member for Page Kevin Hogan.

The Nationals MP has urged the Coalition to get on with good government under new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

"The leadership of the Liberal Party is a matter for them, so the result is what it is," Mr Hogan said.

"I was not surprised by the outcome.

"The feeling now is we need to focus on delivering jobs and economic growth to our communities.

"I look forward to us working with the new leader and the Liberal Party."

Mr Hogan said his party would push for regional NSW to get a better deal under the new leadership when the Nationals and Liberals negotiated a new Coalition on Tuesday.

"Our focus as Nationals will be a better deal for telecommunications in the country, an improved system for country students who need to go the city for university, and protecting farmers and small business in relation to the large supermarkets," he said.

Labor Richmond MP Justine Elliot believed Turnbull would carry on his predecessor's "cruel" legacy.

"No matter who leads the Liberal-National Party it is still the same party with the same cruel policies which are hurting regional Australia," she said.

"They've still got the $50 billion cuts to hospitals, the $30 billion cuts to schools and the $100,000 university degrees.

"Malcolm Turnbull is just another out of touch, arrogant leader with a chaotic, dysfunctional and divided government.

"Labor will continue to take the fight up to this cruel government and we'll stand up for a better, brighter future for all Australians."
