Got a headache? You might be working too hard

IT'S official - we are all working too much.

Studies are showing over-working is becoming more and more common for Australian working adults (like we needed academic research to tell us that).

This over work, however, is not the healthiest way to live and it can often lead to stress, lack of sleep and eventually tension headaches.

Tension headaches are now a common occurrence among adults.

A tension headache may appear occasionally or frequently - some people even get them daily.

Regardless of how often they appear, they are an uncomfortable issue that occurs far too often and can be prevented when the right steps are taken by keeping the surrounding muscles loose, drinking plenty of water and getting regular sleep.

Tension headaches can cause a mild to moderate constant band-like pain, tightness, or pressure around the forehead or back of the head and neck.

This tension can be extremely uncomfortable and can negatively affect your daily life.

When a headache develops, many people's first response is to take headache tablets.

Headache tablets, however, only numb the pain; they do not fix it or prevent the headache from reoccurring.

To treat a tension headache, receiving a remedial massage can not only reduce the pain of a tension headache, but help prevent a reoccurrence.

When your neck and shoulder muscles become tight, they put pressure on, and pull on, your head and scalp.

This can cause your body to respond with an uncomfortable tension headache.

Remedial massage works to help relax these muscles; relieving spasms and tightness that cause pain.

Once the pressure is released from the muscles and nerves, it allows the supplying blood vessels to work effectively, thus reducing the pain of the tension headache.

Remedial massage can not only help the muscles that are causing your body pain to relax, but can also effectively reduce the anxiety and mental stress that causes headaches.

It is important to receive regular, ongoing massages to help prevent headaches as this will reduce your overall stress and muscle tension - common causes of tension headaches.

Once your muscles are relaxed, it will allow the body to be less stressed, gain more sleep and the tension headaches will be a thing of the past.
