Over the moon at our pre-bub break
FOR two young love birds, the future is a little daunting.
We are in our early twenties, just bought our first place and are about to morph into a family of three.
This was our last chance to get away to indulge in fun, sleep, intimacy and relaxation before our little bundle of joy arrives.
Or, as some would say, our little bundle of tantrums, tears and stinky nappies.
Whatever the case, it was good to take some time out to get our heads around the life-changing experience which is only weeks away.
Our Babymoon, as they call it, didn't have to be an extravagant overseas holiday - just a few days away to enjoy each other's company.
So we chose Broadbeach on the Gold Coast - only a short drive away but still offering the atmosphere young ones are attracted to, without the added hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise.
With the sun shining and summer starting to crackle, the Savannah Hotel and Resort was our base to kick back by the pool and explore the tourist strip, within walking distance of Jupiters Casino, the beach, extensive shopping and great dining options.
Located on the second floor is where the mother-to-be wished she could have spent every minute of the day, being pampered and getting her first real pregnancy massage at Calmer Therapies.
While she was upstairs in heaven, I checked out the spa with a cold beverage.
The spa had everything you'd expect: lap pool, two jacuzzis and a steaming hot sauna.
After the massage and a relaxing hour or so in the spa, we had all the energy in the world to hit Jupiters Casino for some gambling and dinner.
My $100 limit didn't last too long playing roulette - with the old saying: "The house always wins" ringing in my ears as I walked away from the table.
But we did have a win on the night, and that was the Food Fantasy buffet.
If there was a buffet in paradise with dishes from all over the world, hot and cold, including seafood and as many delightful desserts you can imagine, this would be it.
The mother-to-be filled any cravings and definitely indulged in her fair share of the desserts.
We finally dragged ourselves back to Savannah for a bit of down time followed by a good night's sleep.
Rising early morning, we took a stroll along the beach followed by an al-fresco breakfast by the pool.
While the pregnant one still had some energy in her feet, we wandered over to Pacific Fair for some retail therapy.
The village-style shopping centre has more than 150 fashion and accessory stores, and let's just say we stayed a little longer then I wanted and the mum-to-be pushed through the feet pain barrier a little more than usual.
Nearing our last night, we chose to relax in our air-conditioned unit and have some dinner and drinks at the Alto Cucina & Bar on the beachside of the Oasis Shopping Centre.
Broadbeach has plenty of entertaining nightlife all-year-round and after indulging in some Cold Rock ice cream (we were on holidays, so why not?), we walked back to Savannah for a well-deserved sleep, safe in the knowledge that breakfast would be waiting for us once again downstairs in the morning, to fuel us up for the two-hour drive home.
