Outlaws burn rubber in supercharged meet

BENARABY Raceway will be supercharged with excitement this weekend as it hosts an exciting specialised competition.

The Supercharged Outlaw Shootout Meet will attract the best supercharged speedsters from across the state.

So far, 10 dedicated Supercharged Outlaw Bracket race cars are scheduled to race at the meet at the famed raceway today.

Drag racers to contest the competition will include the likes of Nathan Peirano in his cherished 27T Roadster and Matthew McKnight in a downright scary 53 Studebaker.

Bundaberg Drag Racing Club member Tom Parry said the competition would have spectators on their feet.

"They're absolutely awesome," he said.

"When these things leave the starting line they actually shake the ground you're standing on.

"They have around 2500 horse power reach speeds of around 200mph (32kmh)."

Bundaberg Drag Racing Club members will travel in a convoy of 15 cars to compete in the Track Championship.

Parry said that number represented the strength of the local club.

"We've got a lot of members and a lot of members who consistently race up there."

"It's good to see so many people supporting the competition up."

Gates to the Supercharged Outlaw Meet open 10am.

Qualifying is from 1pm to 5pm and racing from 6pm to 10pm.
