OUR SAY: We need to fill out the Census

THE Census, like voting, is a pain in the backside for a lot of us.

I know it can seem like a lot of mucking around but it's very important for the Bundaberg region.

The results of the Census will impact all of us as politicians and bureaucrats use the information to distribute taxes across the nation.

GST revenue to the states is worked out on these numbers and as Mayor Jack Dempsey says, this flows on to councils like Bundaberg through grants and subsidies.

Population data also provides information that can and should fast-track funding for jobs, health, education and services.

So while I might not totally disagree with people doing a donkey vote (sometimes there is no one worth voting for), I do think we should all take the Census very seriously.

The outcome can benefit all of us.
