OUR SAY: SDA a great move for Bundy
THE State Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson announced the Government has opened consultation on the move to turn the area around the Port of Bundaberg into a State Development Area.
Queensland currently has nine SDAs, which include industrial areas at Abbot Point and Gladstone, infrastructure corridors including Callide and Galilee Basin, and major public utility sites such as the Queensland Children's Hospital.
If the Bundaberg port becomes the tenth it would open up a world of opportunities for the region.
SDAs are defined areas established by the Coordinator-General to promote economic development.
They are designed to fast-track development in a way that reduces infrastructure duplication, transport confliction, environmental impacts while still giving developers certainty.
In my view an SDA in Bundaberg would be great news for jobs in the region.
The Port of Bundaberg is well positioned to be a major player in all types of industry and export boosting jobs in the region. I hope it gets the green light.
