Our Nev wins Walkley Award

TOOWOOMBA Chronicle photographer Neville Madsen's dramatic January flood photo has won him the Nikon-Walkley News Photography 2011 award at a gala ceremony last night.

Mr Madsen's "Toowoomba flood rescue" was a finalist in the 56th Walkley Awards after winning the Community/Regional Prize last month.

He said it was an amazing feeling to receive the coveted trophy.

"I was fine until my name was called out and I was stunned," he said.

Mr Madsen said it was a lovely night and that it was amazing to see all the photographs up on the big screen.

Editor-in-Chief Steve Etwell said it was a pinnacle moment in any news photographer's career.

"This iconic image was taken on one of Nev's days off and is well deserved," he said.

"There was no luck involved, only skill and talent. It epitomises everything we do and continue to do in the news industry."
