ATHLETICS: It might be a new season for Bundaberg's Matt Otto but some things stay the same.

The 16-year-old sprinter at the Little Athletics Queensland Spring Carnival broke another record on Saturday at the Bundaberg Athletics Track.

Otto in the under-17 100m beat Josh Howearth with a time of 10.86 to break the record for the age group at the event.

It beat the previous time by over two tenths of a second which was set in 2013 by fellow Bundaberg sprinter James Quinn.

The time is also a personal best for Otto, with his previous best time of 10.90 seconds set at the Athletics Australian national titles in March.

Otto has now taken three tenths of a second away from his time last year of 11.17 seconds at the same event.

The focus now for Otto is to aim towards the 10.47 second time set by Jake Doran earlier this year for the under-18 Queensland record.

Otto will compete at the state School Sports Athletics titles on October 12 to 15.
