Five Federal leaders in five years: Time to elect president?
FIVE Prime Ministers in five years.
I wouldn't be surprised if Australia is being laughed at by the whole world right now.
Is it just me, or is the Australian political system no longer working?
The policies of parties in the past six or seven years have been more reflective of 'what's cool at the moment' rather than policies of substantial long-term visions we have seen in the past.
Furthermore, Australian politics of this past decade reflects society's attitudes towards relationships - if it doesn't work straight away, get a trade in.
Maybe it's time Australia gets a trade in on it's political system.
Should Australian's vote for the Prime Minister independent of government?
This poll ended on 18 September 2015.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
A number of people commented online yesterday about how they have voted for the Liberal Party because they wanted Tony Abbott as Prime Minister. Others commented they voted for LNP because they felt the party was more stable than the ALP which had a leadership change three times in three years.
Maybe it's time Australia voted for a national leader separate from a national governing party/coalition? Like France and America.
Or we could revamp the system and look at Switzerland, the country that remained neutral while Italy and France combined military forces against Germany and Hungary-Austria, has a fairly neutral political system where the head of the country is actually a committee.
Either way, it's time for Australia to become a republic and have a political system shake up so the country can move on with policies and infrastructure works.
What do you think about this? Do you agree?
Is it time Australia became a republic? Should we elect a president? And who would you suggest we elect as president of Australia?

What you're saying on Facebook:
Tom D'Villa Allen: "What difference would a president make?? Politicians need to be more honest and have Australia's best interests at heart. Make a stand stop raping the ground selling out to China and spoiling this natural and beautiful country."
Ryan Tierney: "It may be time to adopt a system similar to the American presidential candidates, where the public vote for the prime ministerial candidate for each party."
Kelly Frost: "I don't think it's right that we the people vote someone in and then there party decides we picked the wrong person and changes it without a public vote. Now that just doesn't feel honest to me. At least it takes longer to impeach a president not a few hours..."
Ryan Hartley: "Seeming voting doesn't make a difference anyway.. Like I've been saying my entire life..... It doesn't really make a difference who's in power they are all a bunch of nitwits .... If we have a president or a prime minister it wouldn't make a difference to how the country works it's just a title!!"
Brett Morris: "I don't know what the big deal is. The prime minister is simply the leader of the party with the most seats. The only people who ever choose the PM are the party. As an individual, the PM has no more power than anyone else in the party. The real people controlling the nation are the ones who have balance of power in the senate, because without their say so, nothing happens."
Ash Hodge: "Yeah, cause that will make it work so much better. Just look how well america is doing. Not really something to strive for."
David Riddell: "Well the system sucks as it is, it appears they are all in it for themselves with no thought about the future of the country. I don't think there is really anything better we just need better people to represent us and not bearacratic career politicians."
Marie Palmer I think it's time to vote one party in no PREFERENCE given
