Although the weather was hot, there was a nice breeze from the river which made the more comfortable. Thanks to John Scougall for coming along to play with the ladies.

Next Friday February 17, we will be having the Bundaberg Men versus the Bundaberg Ladies with play commencing at 1pm. Please come along members to help make this day an enjoyable one for all.

Also on the 17th there is a committee meeting for the Bundaberg ladies. We have some important events coming up and we need to finalise these.

To the armed bowlers of Bundaberg clubs, please put your nominations in for the Armed Bowling Day on Friday March 3.

We have teams from Urangan, and Dalby already nominated together with some local clubs as well. Play commences at 9am with a cost of $25 per player. This includes morning and afternoon tea plus a light lunch. Teams will consist of 2 armed bowlers and one non armed bowler. Teams or single nominations are accepted.

The Bundaberg District Bowls Association (Ladies Section) will be holding the District Championship Fours at the Bundaberg Club on Thursday and Friday on April 6 and 7.

A list is on our board, please put your teams up to play in this event.

A list is also on the board for our Ladies Open Fours which will be on Friday March 31. $1500 Prise money - cost $100 per team - morning tea and lunch provided. Play commences at 9am.

Childers District Social Golf Club

A very warm morning tempered by a light breeze greeted the 16 players and two guests who turned up to play a stroke and putt over the back nine with the game finishing well before the temperatures became too much.

The winner on 31 was Michael Stanton with a credible 31 and managing to lose 2.7 off his handicap,. Second was Rob Blows with 33 and losing 1.8 and third Chris Fitzsimmons on 34 and losing 0.9.

The Least Putts was won by Paul McCarragher who also took out the Combined Approach on the 14th. The two Longest Drives were won by Terry Smallman and well done.

Ross Nichols won the B Grade Approach on the 10th, Al Ball the Combined Nearest the Pin on the 13th and Scott Lucas the Men's Approach on the 15th.

There was a small meeting after the game to choose a Captain and Vice-Captain/Handicapper and Paul McCarragher was voted in for Captain and Al Ball as Vice-Captain /Handicapper. Members should now have a events calendar for 2017 from the Social Club. Just remember to check either the News Mail on Tuesday's or www.childerssocialgolf.com for the latest updates.

Men

The combined match play pairs qualifying round and single stableford competition saw fewer numbers than expected play in the torrid conditions. Darryl Johnstone with 42 points won the single stableford from John Cole on 39, Phil Luckett on 38 and Ken Albion on 36 points.

Nigel Radin (6.11m) won the A Division pinshot on 1 &10; Ken Albion (3.1m) the B Division approach on the same hole; and Ivan Philpott (0.01m) the combined approach on 4 &13.

Darryl's score wasn't enough for his team to lead the four ball competition which was won by John Cole and Rodney Wagner on 46 points from Phil Luckett and Ken Albion on 45 points. The draw for Round 1 of the 4 BBB to be completed on or before Saturday, March 25 is as follows:

Women

Joy Cartner with 33 points won the Thursday single stableford competition on a countback from Diane Rowley, with Di also claiming the ladies' approach. Sandra Kirk claimed a rundown. This Thursday we play a single stroke competition.

On Saturday a small field struggled in the conditions with Cynthia Draper on 33 winning the single stableford competition. Coralie non 32 points was second, with Val Plath winning the ladies approach on 6 &15.

This Saturday nominated players will compete in the sponsored single Match Play in conjunction with a single stableford competition, open to all members.

Vets

Last Tuesday the Vets enjoyed the favoured single stableford competition in two Divisions.

In Division 1, Mick Hickey, putting like a champion, recorded 43 points to win comfortably from Laurie Dakin on 39, second on a countback from Craig Reynolds.

Harry Zawacki with 37 points won Division 2 from Coralie Volgyesi on 35 and Vicki Wyeth on 34.

Mick (in the hole) also won the Men's approach on 1 &10; Ray Walker (0.18m) the Combined approach on 4&13; and Vicki McAulay (in the hole) the Ladies' approach on 6 &15.
