Oh Brothers, what a match
UNDEFEATED Norths are ready for their toughest test of the new cricket season so far when they face Brothers 1 this weekend at Salter Oval.
So far the season has been great for the side that competed in division two last year.
Wins against Brothers 2 by seven wickets, and Across the Waves 2 by three wickets last week, have seen Norths move into second on the ladder.
Now they face their biggest challenge of the season against the defending champions of div one.
Norths player Shaun Rose says his team will have to rise to another level to match it with Brothers 1.
"We're rebuilding our team after last season, but have started the season well, as we are still a solid div two side."
"Playing Brothers 1 is a big step in quality from what we played last year. We need to play well and not lapse in concentration to be any chance of beating them," he added.
So far Norths have restricted their opponents to under 140 in both matches in the competition.
Rose has put this down to the bowling team working well together.
"We have been bowling well in partnerships."
"Our batting though hasn't been up to standards and that needs to improve this weekend," Rose said.
For Brothers 1 they will have to win without their captain Jarrod Laycock, who remains out with a back injury.
A pulled muscle will see him miss his second consecutive match for the team.
He says the team must be wary of Norths who have looked good this season.
"Norths look to be a dangerous opponent for us this weekend."
"Our strength is batting first against them, so we will try to do that, and set a competitive total for them to chase down," Laycock concluded.
Norths will take on Brothers 1 at Salter Oval 3 at 9am on Sunday with Past Highs and Brothers 2 also playing at the same time on Oval 1.
Across the Waves 1 and 2 will battle each other on Saturday at 12:30pm.
