Highway crash turns nasty

TWO women have been charged after two Bundaberg police officers were allegedly assaulted when the aftermath of a car crash turned ugly yesterday.

Police were called to the two-vehicle crash on the Isis Highway, near the Bundaberg Caravan Park, at about 10.50am.

Upon investigating the possible cause of the incident, police were allegedly assaulted by the two women.

Officers had to use capsicum spray during the struggle that ensued.

A Police Media spokesperson said the two women, one 22 and the other 31, were charged in relation to the incident.

One woman, the driver of one of the cars, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting police and obstructing police.

The other woman was charged with assaulting police and obstructing police.

The policemen sustained minor injuries, including scratches and bruises.

One officer was treated at Bundaberg Hospital and both officers resumed normal duty yesterday.

The two women will appear in court at a later date.
