Oakwood Park is at its strongest
THE Oakwood Park Golf Club has sat on the banks of the Burnett River quietly for years. Even the might of the 2013 flood didn't have the power to dent the committee's and the members' drive to keep the course open.
The mud is long gone and despite everything positive happening at the course there are still rumours circling the golf community claiming Oakwood Park is in financial trouble and is going to close.
The owners of Oakwood Park, Davis and Yvonne Chivers, released a statement about the future of the club.
"Just continuing unfounded rumours," Mr Chivers said in a statement sent to the NewsMail.
"We have a very strong and open book committee now, who have the drive and vision of keeping this golf course open for many years to come.
"Oakwood Park's financial position is the strongest in the Bundaberg district, we are completely debt free and have a more than enough bank balance in reserve for those rainy days.
Our complete up-to-date accounts are always available on request to the members at the clubhouse."
In the statement sent to the NewsMail, Chivers explained the club has a fair and proven system for the distribution of prizes in accordance with the numbers competing and divisions formed, where everyone has an equal chance to win, and the records show every member has.
Chivers said despite all his assurances, persistent rumours had circulated to other Bundaberg district clubs and other district clubs Oakwood Park was in financial difficulties; even the date of the closure was predicted.
The committee welcomed comment from members regarding this situation.
