NSA whistleblower awaiting extradition while in hiding

THE former United States security analyst, who leaked secret NSA documents, is hiding in a Hong Kong safe house, awaiting a legal extradition challenge.

Edward Snowden, who earlier this year leaked high security documents, was reportedly awaiting the legal case the US was likely to bring to extradite him from Hong Kong.

The Independent reported on Sunday that White House National Security Adviser Tom Donilon confirmed the US had begun to seek his extradition.

However, Mr Snowden could contest the extradition on grounds of political persecution.

Any case brought would be further complicated as while having an autonomous government; Hong Kong remains a Chinese territory, creating diplomatic risks for all parties to any such case.
