No plans to offer Melbourne to Bay direct flight: Qantas

QANTAS has no plans to introduce a direct flight route from Hervey Bay to Melbourne.

After Qantas announced its plans to permanently cancel the direct flight route between Sydney and Hervey Bay from August 8, Chronicle readers asked if the route would be replaced by a direct flight to and from Melbourne.

A Qantas spokeswoman said the company was not seeing the passenger numbers in the stop-over route for direct flights to become viable.

"We have no plans for a direct service from Hervey Bay to Melbourne, however we're always looking at our network for new opportunities," the spokeswoman said.

"We offer flights to Melbourne via Brisbane, which have good connecting times."

Virgin Australia has also been asked for comment on any plans for a direct flight between Melbourne and Hervey Bay, but was unable to reply before the paper's print deadline.
